ICT and Special Needs - Mild General Learning Disabilities

Pre-requisites

Introductory Course Phase 1 or equivalent experience
Ideally, participants will also have completed Introductory Course Phase 2 or have equivalent experience.
Target Audience

This course is intended specifically for teachers of students with mild general learning disabilities, particularly those with special classes and in special schools catering primarily for this category of students.

Contents

The course is intended to provide teachers with information on ICT use in learning support, the confidence to introduce it into their own classes and specific strategies, tools and resources to use in the integration of ICT into the curriculum.

Course objectives:

  • explore ways in which ICT can be used to support individual students' needs
  • provide exposure to on-line resources/software which the teacher can use to remediate those needs
  • learn about the use of these resources and strategies to assist with their integration into the curriculum
  • learn about different uses of ICT, such as the use of ICT to motivate students and to create individualised teaching and learning materials
  • focus on a topic of particular interest to the participant through a project in a supported environment
