CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The 10th Asia-Europe Classroom Network (AEC-NET) Conference will take place in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland from 7 to 11 November 2011.   The conference is organised in collaboration with the County Louth Vocational Education Committee, and supported by the Department of Education and Skills.

The theme for this year's conference is "Apps in Asian and European Classrooms! Unleashing Educational Creativity". The conference aims to provide secondary and high school educators from Asia and Europe with hands-on experience of using applications (Vodcasting and Google Docs etc.) to enhance and foster creativity in education.

The 10th AEC-NET Conference falls under the greater framework of the Asia-Europe Classroom Network (AEC-NET) programme.  Launched in December 1998, the Asia-Europe Classroom Network (AEC-NET) is one of the programmes implemented by the Asia-Europe Foundation's (ASEF) which aims to foster collaborations among secondary and high school teachers and students in Asia and Europe.  The Network harnesses the potential of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in connecting secondary and high schools in Asia and Europe and constructing a framework for a "cyber classroom" that would promote and facilitate intellectual and inter-cultural exchanges among secondary and high school teachers and students of the two regions.
In brief, the main elements of the 10th AEC-NET Conference are:

(a) Professional enrichment for participants on the use of applications to support creativity in education

(b) Presentations of Asia-Europe Classroom (AEC) Projects and Awards, and

(c) Discussion and development of future AEC Projects

The 10th AEC-NET Conference is open to all secondary and high school teachers and educators from ASEM* countries.  For participants to fully benefit from the Conference, they need to:

(a) be proficient in both spoken and written English

(b) have a keen interest in being creative and innovative in education

(c) have sufficient knowledge about ICT and its application in learning and training; and

(d) be prepared to share their experiences and ideas on ICT projects and/or to propose project ideas.

The organisers will cover all local costs in connection with the Conference (including 4 nights' accommodation, meals, local transport and other costs to be incurred during the programme). Participants are, however, requested to cover their travel costs to and from Dublin, Ireland either on their own, or with the support of their secondary/high schools or other agencies.
