SmartClass
Technology is an essential foundation stone of transforming education and providing the tools needed to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. SmartClass is a competition for post-primary schools in Ireland to win a complete technology package for their entire first year of students.
Medea Awards
Calling out to all creative minds who produce educational media: be sure to participate in the MEDEA Awards! Submit your entry online before 16 September 2011 to have a chance to win in one of the award categories.
Department of Justice and Equality Art Competition
The Department of Justice and Equality are running an Art Competition for Secondary Students to design a cover for a guide on child trafficking. With prizes ranging from €200 to €500 for the winning students and schools. The competition is open to students in Transition Year, 5th and 6th Year. Students may enter as an individual or as a group.
Closing date is 4pm on the 11 November 2011.
Poetry Aloud
The popular 'Poetry Aloud' poetry speaking competition is taking place again this year. Full details are available in the link provided.
Deadline for entries is Friday, September 23rd.

European Day of Languages, 2011 Competitions
Léargas is running two competitions this year to celebrate the European Day of Languages:
- Calendar Competition
- Video Clip Competition
The closing date for both competitions is Friday 7 October 2011.
F1 in Schools
Registration is now open for the popular technology challenge, F1 in Schools. If you’re a second-level student and want to get your hands on the latest technology from the worlds of engineering, computing and manufacturing.
Graduate Online Student Quiz
The ‘Graduate Online Youth Quiz’ is a free on-line educational Quiz for primary and post primary students in Ireland. Many national public and private organisations and European institutions support the Quiz through sponsorship and the provision of prizes.
The Quiz returns on September 19th.
BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition
The event, which is in its 48th year and which has been organised and sponsored by BT for 12 years, will take place in the RDS from 11th-14th January.
Closing date for entries is 4th October.
Xperimania - final call!
Open to pupils aged 6 to 19, the Xperimania competitions encourage them to show their perception of chemistry via drawings and to interview local female chemists. Participants get a chance to win a trip to Brussels, as well as special Xperimania kits, which include gadgets and material for school.
Deadline for submission is 30 September.
U4Energy
Are you interested in energy efficiency and climate protection? Then register your school to the U4energy competition! Primary and secondary schools across Europe are invited to participate in this exciting competition. Schools can win prizes for their achievements in saving energy. The first round of the U4energy competition was officially launched in September 2010. The second round is now open until May 2012.
Juvenes Translatores translation contest
Amid ever-growing interest, the European Commission will run its Juvenes Translatores translation contest for the fifth time in 2011. The contest is open to 17-year-olds in secondary schools throughout the European Union. Young students will be asked to translate a one-page text between any two languages from among the EU’s 23 official languages. This year the theme of the texts will be “volunteering”.
Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012
Now in its tenth year, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a truly global competition focused on finding solutions to real-world problems.
Designs for Learning Education Competition
With NDRC Inventorium and The Science Gallery Dublin’s Designs for Learning competition, they want to find the ideas that best link learning between home, school and gallery and are offering five finalists €3,000 each to develop their ideas, after which they will go on to compete for a further €5,000, along with support to make their idea a reality.
This public competition is open to anyone who has a great idea.
