7th annual FÍS Film Festival

The 7th annual FÍS Film Festival have taken place in the Helix, DCU. FÍS is a wonderful celebration of the creativity and imagination of children and teachers in Irish schools. An initiative of, and organised jointly by, the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) and the Dun Laoghaire Institute for Art, Design & Technology (IADT), the annual event sees schools from all over Ireland creating short films from animations, documentaries to educational dramas. Twenty four schools (700 children) were invited to the Helix Theatre in DCU for what is really the Irish schools Film Oscar’s.
The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, presented the Aileen MacKeogh Award for Outstanding Achievement in Film Making to Ballyadams NS Kildare, for their film "Nightmare in Toytown".

Commenting at the FÍS Film Festival, Anne White, National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), said: “FÍS is about children and teachers working together in a highly creative and energising way. It brings out the best in all and sparks the children’s imagination and incredible ability to tell a good story. Is rud iontach domsa bheith i measc páistí lán le samhlaíocht agus spioraid – ár dTodhchaí.”
