Microsoft Ireland Education Win Big in Berlin

Microsoft European Innovative Education Forum 2010

The Microsoft European Innovative Education Forum 2010 took place last week in Berlin, Germany. There were 250 teachers from 41 countries competing in this year’s Innovative Teachers Competition. This was the 7th event of this type and the most competitive to date. We had 3 entries this year and it was the most successful competition to date for Microsoft Ireland.

1st Place for Community

Barry Corrigan- Millennium Integrated Primary, Saintfield, NI

Making Homework Count- Parent Engagement

2nd Place for Content

Ursula Hynes and David Walsh- Ratoath College, Co. Meath VEC

My Study Mate

The 3rd entry was a Northern Ireland winner and was:

Students Driving Learning Forward- Christ the Redeemer Primary, Belfast

Matt McGinley, Kevin O’Neill, Neil Watson and Ciaran O’Hare

While this entry may not have won an award, it was recognised as innovative and unique project. So much so that Microsoft Croatia Education will be setting up a Live Meeting with Christ the Redeemer to showcase their work with 150 Croatian Primary schools in the coming weeks.

Both winning entries will now be attending the Worldwide Innovative Education Forum in Capetown, South Africa in October 2010 and will compete against teachers from around the world.
