NCTE Creating ICT Resources
Overview
This course aims to develop the basic ICT skills many teachers already have and enable them to apply these skills to creating ICT resources for teaching and learning. Useful Internet sites for teaching and learning, digital cameras and creating digital stories using images and sound are among the key topics covered.
The course focuses on:
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Special Educational Needs.
The skills learnt and content covered in this course are also applicable to interactive whiteboards. Completion of this course, together with another short ICT skills course, equips teachers with the pre-requisites for other NCTE basic level courses.

Course Content
The course is divided into three modules. Education centres may offer the three modules together as one course, or separately as a shorter course.
Module 1 – Creating ICT Resources using the Internet
Module 2 – Creating ICT Resources using Digital Media
Module 3 – Creating ICT Resources with Digital Storytelling
Participants use computers, digital cameras and widely available software programmes to create resources. These can be saved for later use in the classroom. Participants are also guided through the myriad of Internet sites relevant to teaching and learning, with a particular focus on Irish curriculum-related resources applicable to literacy, numeracy and special educational needs.
