There are four new Syllabii in Physical Education.
These new syllabii present certain challenges in the area of assessment and it is felt that Digital Video may have a role to play in overcoming these as well as making a significant contribution to the quality of Physical Education experienced by pupils in Irish Schools.
A project proposal was first submitted to the NCTE in March
2002 and approval was granted for the Project to run in 12 Cork schools for
2 years.
Driving Forces of the Project
A cohort of Physical Education teachers with project experience
from a variety of curricular initiatives.
The need to establish a place for the applied use of ICT in Physical Education
in Ireland. Recent curricular developments in Physical Education need to use
this technology to optimise the implementation of the new syllabi.
The need to provide a "bank" of resource material to which teachers
can refer when teaching the new syllabi.
The need to overcome the assessment difficulties that are presented by the
practical areas of the new syllabi in Physical Education.
The desire to carry out new and innovative research in Irish education.
The opportunity to enhance the professional development a sizeable cohort
of teachers and the opportunity to train students in the applied use of ICT
in the curriculum.
