THE MAIN CHARACTERS
Derval is a twelve year old girl. she has blonde hair and blue eyes. She has a younger brother called Eoin whom she cares about a lot. Derval does not allow people to bully her. She has great ideas and plenty of courage.
Derval has a sense of humour. She is active, caring, brave, a good talker, cheeky and determined. Derval is the main female character in the book. She is very smart.
She is fun because she plays with Eoin in the meadow in the beginning and she plays lots of tricks on Leif. When she decides to do something she does it.
She has a great sense of responsibility. There was no way she would leave Dublin without the cross. She realised that she could not get the cross on her own and she was able to work with the other children and Brid to get what she wanted. We liked her character.
Leif is the main male character in the book. He is an undesirable character. He was a Viking leader, he had one eye, was strong and had a long beard.
Leif was a bully and bullied his way through everything. He was very unfair and got everybody else to do the hard work while he did the easy work. He was very selfish. He also took what he wanted.
All that changed when he met Derval. He had taken a gold cross for his future wife but Derval made a promise to protect it. Leif tried to bully her but she stood up to him. It was a war for the gold cross.
She pushed him into a cesspit, made bees chase him and more. In the end he lost the gold cross, he lost his house and he lost his reputation. He left for the South lands. Derval had won.
Eoin is a boy. He is ten years old. He had a sister called Derval who was twelve years old.
I think Eoin was a brave boy. He would never leave his sister somewhere and go somewhere else. He was very caring to his family.
I would say he had brown hair, fair skin, green eyes and red lips. I think he was smart, quiet and a bit shy.
He was determined too because he decided to swim rather than go off in the Viking boat. He shows how brave he is when he goes with Sven to get the gold cross from the thatch. I liked Eoin.
by Darren and Philip.
Toren was a worker for Leif. He had to do hard work for him. He was the one that found the children. When they thought the cross fell into the cesspit Toren was the one who had to empty the pit and find it. Leif bullied him all the time. I would not like to be Toren.
