Promoting Your Web Site - Details

Promoting Your Web Site - Details

How to Promote:

In contrast to traditional media, (where books and magazines and T.V. programs are openly presented for you to browse, either on bookshelves or on T.V. listings), web sites have no such automatic promotion or display mechanism. The nearest analogy that exists is the procedure of submitting your site to the major search engines, and then hope that your submission in the top 20 rather than in the top 200. Research shows that visitors rarely go past the second or third page of Search engine results, and to get into the first page or two of results can be quite a challenge.

The approach to promotion is very similar whether you are promoting your school site or a commercial web site. You have to remember the two Ps – Priming & Publicising. Priming describes the process of certain code (like keywords) to your web pages so that the search engines will index your site optimally. Publicising entails getting out the "good news" about your site.
