Copyright and Web Publishing

Publishing on the Internet is similar in many respects to conventional publishing. As such, Internet publishing is similarly constrained by laws which safeguard authors from having their work abused whether intentionally or by oversight.

Schools will have less reason to breach copyright because of their non-commercial nature, as well as their fair and open use of materials published in the educational sphere.

Warning: However, there are dangers that schools may unintentionally breach copyright because of a lack of information or an oversight – hence this important section.

Tip: It is very wise to simply ask the author for permission to re-print an original work. As many are these days online, this procedure often takes no more than an e-mail.
