Start Web Publishing - Using a Web Editor

There are many software packages available today which aim to make the procedure of creating web pages more simple and intutive. These range from enhanced text editors to packages that automate most of the HTML creation process.

Using a web editor can save you time, and allow you to easily view what your pages will look like. Some web editors offer advanced features such as templates or site management tools. However, web editors can also insert unnecessary code, restrict design options, and produce web pages that take longer to download.

It is generally recommended that you learn at least the basics of HTML before relying on a visual web editing tool. (see Start Web Publishing - Using HTML). Most HTML developers still use a simple text editor to create their web pages. Others create pages initially using a web editor, and then "tweak" the HTML code to make it behave as they want.
